Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Welcome to the world of Libriomancy, a magical ability to draw physical items out of books. Gutenberg (yes, that Gutenberg) founded a secret society to train Libriomancers and stop them going power hungry and taking over the world. Now someone, or something, is threatening that society, and Isaac Vainio (previously side-lined for instability) is one of the few left who can act to save the world.
I really enjoyed Libriomancer in a pulpy sense, it had a good world, decent plot, was well written, and I enjoyed the ride as I read it. It’s not going to change the world, or even the genre, but as entertainment goes, it was worth the price of admission. I’ll definitely pick up the sequel(s).
