The Rapture of the Nerds: A tale of the singularity, posthumanity, and awkward social situations by Cory Doctorow
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
A combined Doctorow / Stross Singularity novel was always going to have a hard time living up to the hype. Did they succeed? Not really in my opinion.
Despite being full of great ideas, they went a bit too far on the crazy funny side for my personal tastes. Eg. I’m pretty sure they gave one of the characters a hobby in pottery, which was repeatedly mentioned throughout the book, just so they could set up a “crack pot” pun later on. Whilst I appreciated the pun, the amount of effort that went into it was a bit over the top.
I’m glad I read it, but probably won’t re-read.
prk.
